The SCA does have a structure with ranks and titles. Some people lose sight of the fact that the group is about having fun and learning about ancient cultures and that the ranks and titles in the group are a part of this. Attaining rank should be a fun thing and those that are in a position where they have a say in what is going on should think of the happiness of the populace first and try to avoid doing things that will make a significant amount of people unhappy.

I have had the opportunity of seeing the King of the Midrealm, King Ragnvaldr, at two events so far and have met him personally at a fighter practice. He is a king and at society events there are honorifics that are proper to use when conversing with him. However, at the end of the day he is just a fellow SCA member. You should show respect to all fellow society members and not just those that are royalty. If the people are royalty in the SCA that generally means they are nice people and exemplify the ideals that we hold high in the group. I understand from things I have heard that this is not always true. I think the best rule is to hear what other people say about a person, store it away in the back of your mind, and then get to know a person and make your OWN opinion about them. My opinion of King Ragnvaldr is that he is an extremely nice person from the way he has acted towards people in court and the way he acted towards me as a new SCA member meeting him at fighter practice for the very first time.
